THG Fulfil boosts Omega warehouse with 120,000-bin AutoStore

Fri, 25th Jul 2025

THG Fulfil has deployed a new 120,000-bin AutoStore system at the Omega warehouse in Warrington, Cheshire.

New automated warehouse system

The deployment introduces a 25% performance improvement over THG Fulfil's previous AutoStore system at the Icon 2 site in Manchester, enhancing the operational efficiency and throughput at the Omega facility. The AutoStore installation elevates the warehouse's capacity for direct-to-consumer (D2C) fulfilment while extending the cut-off for next-day delivery orders to 1am.

The AutoStore system at Omega contains 120,000 bins complemented by 100 R5 Pro robots. The robots are designed to be energy efficient and feature rapid charging technology, which reduces the infrastructure required for charging and enables a reduction in the total number of robots, up to 15% fewer compared to standard R5 robot grids. The system is also equipped with 20 outbound ports and 6 inbound ports to streamline the processing and dispatch of orders.

Robots as a Service model

THG Fulfil's system is based on a Robots as a Service (RaaS) model. This model allows clients to access the automation technology via a monthly fee covering the grid, ports, and robots, rather than incurring significant initial costs. This approach is positioned to help brands implement automation in a more flexible and scalable manner.

Proprietary control and management

According to THG Fulfil, the implementation at Omega was managed entirely in-house. The company acted as the principal contractor for the full delivery of infrastructure, including flooring, ceilings, sprinklers, electrical systems, and mechanical engineering. In addition, the warehouse control system (WCS), infrastructure enablement, data management, system commissioning, software deployment, and WCS implementation were all undertaken without relying on third party dependencies.

Through these measures, THG Fulfil states it has been able to accelerate investment deployment and operational readiness. The company is also the only AutoStore distributor that is also an end user of the technology, operating the highest output D2C fulfilment warehouse among known AutoStore deployments globally.

Executive perspective

This new AutoStore installation is testament to our continued investment in new technology. We aren't just automation distributors; we are the only automation distributors who are also end users. We see ourselves as experts who understand the operational pain points and deliver end-to-end solutions that drive measurable business outcomes. Our RaaS approach fundamentally changes how brands can access world-class automation. By combining our technical expertise with flexible commercial models, we're democratising access to the same automation capabilities used by the world's largest eCommerce operations. Our unique position as both distributor and operator means we deliver solutions proven at the highest performance levels.

The system has been introduced as part of THG Fulfil's ongoing strategy to enhance its fulfilment and courier management solutions. Beyond automation hardware, the company offers third-party logistics (3PL) services including fulfilment, courier management and warehouse storage solutions for clients operating in eCommerce and retail sectors.
