Temenos gains Microsoft AI Cloud core banking status
Temenos has secured a Solutions Partner with a certified software designation for its Core Banking SaaS offering under the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program. The move places the banking software provider among partners whose products meet Microsoft's stated standards for technical requirements, security and interoperability.
The designation covers Core Banking on Temenos SaaS running on Microsoft Azure. It indicates the software has been assessed against Microsoft criteria for solutions that integrate with Azure services and operate within its partner framework.
What it covers
Temenos SaaS is the company's software-as-a-service delivery model for its core banking technology. Core systems sit at the centre of bank operations, processing transactions and maintaining customer account records. Because changes carry operational risk and attract regulatory scrutiny, banks often treat core platform upgrades as multi-year programmes.
The Microsoft designation focuses on interoperability with Microsoft products, as well as technical and security requirements for solutions deployed in Azure environments. It also provides a way for customers to compare products that claim compatibility with Microsoft cloud services.
Temenos positions its Azure-native deployment model as a route to faster change cycles. It says running Temenos SaaS natively on Azure helps banks launch new products, integrate partners and respond more quickly to market changes, while maintaining stability, resilience and operational discipline.
Commercial impact
Temenos says the designation expands joint commercial activity with Microsoft through co-sell opportunities. Temenos SaaS is listed on Microsoft Marketplace, which corporate buyers can use to source and procure software and cloud services within Microsoft's ecosystem.
Marketplace listings and co-sell motions matter in enterprise software because they can shorten sales cycles and align account teams on both sides. For suppliers, that can mean earlier access to demand already flowing through Microsoft's channel and procurement workflows.
For banks, certified listings often support procurement confidence and internal governance. Large financial institutions typically require evidence of security controls and integration testing, while cloud deployments add oversight requirements around resilience, data management and operational processes.
Banking modernisation
Core banking replacement and modernisation have become a priority for many banks. Institutions face competition from digital-first entrants and are seeking to reduce the cost and complexity of legacy platforms. Many are also moving towards modular architectures that rely on well-defined integrations between systems and partners.
Running core systems as SaaS remains a significant step. It shifts responsibility for elements of maintenance, upgrades and platform operations to the supplier, and increases the need for transparency, contractual controls and alignment with regulatory expectations across the markets where a bank operates.
Temenos competes in a crowded field that includes long-established core banking vendors, newer cloud-native platforms, and in-house builds at large institutions. Hyperscalers such as Microsoft are also taking a larger role by providing infrastructure, data services and AI tooling that banks and software suppliers can build on.
"Earning the Solutions Partner with certified software designation is a significant milestone for Temenos. It reflects our commitment to SaaS and delivering cloud-native core banking solutions that meet the highest standards of interoperability, security and performance within the Microsoft ecosystem. We are excited to deepen our relationship with Microsoft, bringing together our core banking solutions and SaaS on the Azure cloud platform for banks globally," Rohit Chauhan, Chief Technology Officer at Temenos, said.
Microsoft framed the designation as a way for partners to differentiate as buyers increase cloud adoption. Andrew Smith, GM, Partner Programs & Experiences at Microsoft, said: "Attaining a Solutions Partner with certified software designation is an important way for partners to stand out in the market and demonstrate their proven capabilities in areas of high customer demand. Earning a certified software designation for your solution can help position you to meet the growing demand for cloud-based solutions. We're pleased to welcome Temenos and its core banking solution on Temenos SaaS to Microsoft's exclusive growing network of partners with certified software designations."
Industry analysts have tracked a rising preference for platforms that combine operational resilience with faster product iteration. CCS Insights linked the announcement to broader patterns in bank technology strategy, particularly among institutions navigating demanding compliance requirements.
"Temenos' core banking solution on Temenos Software as a Service reflects the direction many banks are taking as they modernize core systems, with increased focus on resilience, agility and scalable operations. Earning a Solutions Partner with certified software designation for core banking within the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program provides an external reference point against defined criteria, indicating Temenos has met the program's requirements and demonstrated interoperability with Microsoft Azure, which is relevant for banks operating in demanding and highly regulated environments," said Bola Rotibi, Chief of Enterprise Research, CCS Insights.
Temenos expects to deepen its relationship with Microsoft as banks continue to evaluate cloud deployment models for core banking and surrounding digital services.
