Onton raises USD $7.5 million to expand its AI shopping platform

Thu, 27th Nov 2025

San Francisco-based eCommerce AI company Onton has secured USD $7.5 million in seed funding to further develop its decision-making platform for online shoppers.

The recent funding round brings the company's total investment to approximately USD $10 million, with participation from investors including Footwork, Liquid 2, Parable Ventures and 43.

Market challenge

Online shopping continues to grow in complexity with consumers facing increasing difficulties identifying trustworthy products.

Unstructured listings, conflicting reviews, and advertising-driven search results have complicated the purchase process. Onton addresses this by offering a platform that aggregates information from across the web, allowing users to compare products and make buying decisions in less time.

Technology foundation

Onton's platform uses a neurosymbolic AI foundation, combining machine learning and logical reasoning to enhance accuracy and relevance. Users are able to search using both natural language and images, and can access consolidated information on products in a single listing.

Onton currently supports over two million monthly users and claims a conversion rate three times higher than industry benchmarks, with more than 20 percent of users returning weekly.

Expansion plans

The new funding will allow Onton to scale its operations and expand its product offering. The company currently focuses on home decor and furniture but plans to enter new categories including apparel and electronics. It aims to develop a global product search tool that would enable users to find and decide on products in multiple categories worldwide.

Business development

Onton's growth trajectory has seen its team expand from four to ten employees over the course of 2025. Company executives expect to increase the team to fifteen in the near future to support further development and expansion. The platform's approach aims to adapt to changing consumer expectations where search tools behave as intelligent assistants rather than traditional filters.

"We are building the future of decision making online. People deserve a way to shop that feels intelligent, transparent, and effortless. Onton is designed to remove the friction that slows everyone down and to give users absolute confidence in their choices," said Zach Hudson, CEO and Co-Founder, Onton.

Industry trends

Industry observers note a broader shift in eCommerce as consumers seek more reliable information and efficient buying experiences. The increasing use of AI-first interfaces is influencing expectations on how search and discovery tools should perform. Onton's development of user-customisable search capabilities signals an intent to address these shifts.

"Onton represents a fundamental shift in how people discover and buy products. Having seen customer journeys at Walmart.com and Stitch Fix, their search engine, data pipeline, and user traction point to a future where decision making is intelligent, trusted, and far more enjoyable," said Mike Smith, General Partner, Footwork.
