IVECO launches AI theft recovery for connected fleets
IVECO has added a stolen vehicle recovery service to its connected services portfolio, bringing automated theft detection and a managed response function to its IVECO ON digital platform.
The new service, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, uses the vehicle's factory-fitted connectivity. It combines in-vehicle data with geofencing and automated detection. The package includes access to a 24/7 Security Centre that coordinates recovery steps once a theft alert is validated.
The launch follows a rise in commercial vehicle theft and increasingly organised criminal activity. Across Europe, light commercial vehicles face a theft risk IVECO puts at 10 times that of passenger cars, with an even higher risk in the rental sector.
Theft of working vehicles can disrupt operations for fleets, tradespeople, and delivery firms. It can also trigger follow-on costs from missed jobs and replacement logistics, alongside insurance administration and potential claim disputes.
Stolen Vehicle Assistance is integrated into IVECO ON and links to the company's portal and Easy Daily App. Customers can monitor vehicles during normal use and access additional support if an incident occurs. The service focuses on recovery management rather than tracking alone.
The system builds on standard connectivity across IVECO's range, keeping the service within factory-fit hardware and software rather than relying on aftermarket installation. It also places the offer within the broader connected-services bundles many commercial vehicle makers use to maintain digital relationships with fleet customers.
Detection methods
Theft detection combines AI-based analysis with geofencing. Fleet operators can set virtual geographic boundaries, and the system can flag unusual movements against expected patterns and boundary rules.
When an alert is raised, a confirmation step checks whether the event is likely to be theft. Once confirmed, the recovery process begins immediately.
IVECO is working with Targa Telematics on the service. Targa provides telematics technology for the detection and response workflow and also helps run the Security Centre.
Security centre
The 24/7 Security Centre serves as the operational hub once an alert is validated. It coordinates with relevant authorities, manages tracking during the incident, and supports the recovery process.
The Security Centre operates in direct cooperation with European law enforcement authorities and runs in line with applicable regulations.
According to the announcement, the workflow uses agentic AI assistants to analyse vehicle data and operational context, correlate events, and propose actions during an incident.
IVECO says this approach can increase recovery rates and reduce response times, citing recovery rates of up to 90% for the managed model.
For fleet operators, combining automated detection with managed coordination reflects the reality that theft often occurs outside business hours. Many fleets-especially small and medium-sized operators-also have limited in-house security staffing, making a managed service a single point of contact during a fast-moving event.
"With Stolen Vehicle Assistance, we help customers react quickly when a theft occurs and recover their vehicle as fast as possible. By combining factory‐fitted connectivity, AI‐driven detection and a 24/7 Security Centre, we turn alerts into coordinated recovery actions that keep vehicles available and businesses running," said Alberto Buttiglieri, Product Manager for Safety and Security Services, IVECO.
The partnership reflects a wider trend in the telematics market, as vehicle makers increasingly rely on specialist providers for data platforms, monitoring functions, and incident-response processes. This model can shorten development timelines while helping manufacturers extend software-driven offers across multiple markets.
Alberto Falcione, Vice President Sales at Targa Telematics, framed the collaboration around data-led decision-making and operational response.
"By leveraging advanced data intelligence together with years of operational expertise in vehicle security, we help fleets respond quickly and effectively to critical events," said Falcione. "Through close collaboration, we supported IVECO in developing a tailored solution design to protect commercial vehicles and support fleet operators with both cutting‐edge technology and dedicated managed services, ensuring business continuity and greater peace of mind."
IVECO says the service provides structured assistance during theft incidents, aiming to limit disruption and return vehicles to normal operation. The offer sits within the connected services portfolio on IVECO ON, using the existing portal and mobile app as the customer interface.
