Superdry boosts operational efficiency with AI retail platform
Superdry has enhanced its global store operations by adopting Cegid Retail Store Excellence, an AI-powered platform designed to improve operational efficiency and retail communication.
The fashion retailer, whose footprint spans the UK, Europe, and the US, sought to replace its legacy system due to challenges related to customisation, administration, and scalability. Superdry aimed to introduce a solution that enabled real-time communication, streamlined operational tasks and minimised administrative workload for staff across its expanding network of stores.
According to Liz Packe, Global Corporate Communications Manager at Superdry, the introduction of the platform has brought significant improvements to the business. She stated,
"With an ever-growing demand on Head Office teams' workload, Cegid Retail Store Excellence has saved countless hours and gives us peace of mind that our retail teams have everything they need to operate efficiently, commercially, and safely to meet brand expectations and objectives"
Superdry's implementation of the platform allows head office teams to send targeted, branded communications by region, store or team, ensuring updates are precise and actionable. Automated task management and real-time progress monitoring have reportedly reduced the administrative burden on store staff, allowing them to devote more time to customer service activities.
As Superdry faces turnover among store managers and operates with distributed management, maintaining consistent processes across locations has been a key priority. The platform's digital archive, which records training confirmation and visual merchandising guidelines, offers a straightforward system for monitoring compliance and maintaining operational standards according to company policy.
Packe noted the broader impact of the platform on Superdry's ongoing response to changing business pressures. She added,
"More than a task management platform, it's a trusted operational tool. It helps us do more with less - and do it better."
The retailer is currently engaged in a strategic turnaround that emphasises efficiency, cost control, and strengthening operational discipline. These efforts come amid a background of rising employment expenses due to increases in National Insurance contributions and the National Minimum Wage. In this context, a system that supports streamlined, effective execution at the store level has become a vital part of Superdry's strategy.
Cegid Retail Store Excellence is central to this approach, supporting compliance and maintaining brand standards while enabling teams to respond swiftly to changing priorities in the retail sector.
Industry response
Alan Holcroft, UK Managing Director at Cegid, commented on the new relationship with Superdry:
"We're incredibly proud to support Superdry, an iconic British brand known for its style, creativity and international reach. To play a part in helping them drive operational transformation and stay agile in a demanding retail environment is a real privilege. Our mission is to make retail execution easier and more effective and it's fantastic to see that vision come to life at Superdry."
The partnership between Superdry and Cegid reflects a wider trend in retail towards the adoption of digital platforms that optimise both head office and store-level tasks. By leveraging AI-driven solutions, retailers can address challenges linked to compliance, consistency and cost, particularly as regulatory and labour-related pressures increase.
Superdry intends to continue focusing on operational improvements as it progresses through its strategic reorganisation. The company reports that the platform's functionalities have provided clear advantages in terms of efficiency and control, supporting teams in their daily responsibilities.
