Sitoo gets Gartner recognition in Unified Commerce Platforms
Sitoo has been named as a Representative Vendor in Gartner's 2025 Market Guide for Unified Commerce Platforms Anchored by AI-Enabled POS for Tier 2 Retailers, underscoring the growing role of cloud-native and composable systems in store modernisation.
The Stockholm-based company develops a cloud-native unified commerce platform anchored by point-of-sale software. Retailers use the system across physical and digital channels in fashion and lifestyle segments.
Gartner's latest Market Guide examines how artificial intelligence, composable architectures and cloud-native design are reshaping store technology for mid-market and regional chains. The firm highlights a shift away from traditional, monolithic POS systems towards modular platforms that link store, online and back-office data.
AI in store
The Market Guide describes AI as a central element in next-generation POS systems. It links AI with store associate support, more tailored customer interactions and operational control based on predictive analytics.
The report states: "The platforms facilitate seamless, personalised, and touchless shopping journeys, which are crucial for meeting evolving customer expectations and differentiating brands in competitive landscapes."
Gartner notes that unified commerce platforms are increasingly built around mobile tools for staff. These tools aggregate information from different systems into a single interface.
"They empower store associates with mobile-centric tools and consolidated user interfaces, sometimes referred to as "superapps," that streamline tasks and provide a "single pane of glass" for real-time data and insights across channels, thereby enhancing productivity and the customer experience."
According to the Market Guide, retailers that adopt unified data models can record sales, product and customer information in one place. Gartner links this trend with faster POS implementations and improvements in data consistency.
"Key outcomes include increased sales growth through unified data models, accelerated POS implementation, and improved data quality by maintaining a single source of truth for sales, product, and customer information."
Composable architectures
The research identifies a structural shift in store technology design. POS now forms one of several nodes in a composable ecosystem rather than a single central control point.
Gartner points to cloud-native and mobile-first platforms based on so-called MACH principles. These use microservices, an API-first approach, cloud hosting and headless architectures. The firm links these designs with faster innovation cycles and more flexible scaling across sales channels.
The Market Guide advises retailers to use POS upgrades as a moment to overhaul store infrastructure and embed AI functions in the process. Gartner lists reasons for change such as high ownership costs, slow innovation delivery and scaling limits.
The report notes that MACH-based approaches can address many of these issues. It also states that some retailers still see composable architecture as expensive or complex to adopt, despite observed benefits in practice.
The Market Guide says that modern unified commerce platforms aim to bring disparate systems together. The systems use open architectures and real-time or near-real-time integrations via APIs and webhooks. These links connect into existing ERP, CRM and order management systems.
Gartner also stresses the need for cloud-native POS systems with high resilience, strict data protection and firm disaster recovery processes. Analysts frame these as requirements for business continuity in a shifting market environment.
