Tue, 1st Oct 2024

Northern, the second-largest train operator in the UK, is rolling out Parcel Pending by Quadient lockers at 50 railway stations across Northern England. These lockers allow passengers to securely pick up and drop off parcels 24/7. This initiative, part of Northern's effort to enhance customer convenience, is already live in stations across West Yorkshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, and South Yorkshire. An additional 12 stations are expected to have lockers installed by the end of September, and 30 more have been identified for installation by spring 2025.

With over 100 million passenger journeys made on Northern annually, the Quadient lockers will enable customers, carriers, retailers, and local businesses to pick up and drop off parcels at any time of the day securely.

Mark Powles, Commercial and Customer Director at Northern, stated, "Our stations are at the heart of the communities they serve, and as such, they are the perfect base for other popular services that people require. Access to parcel delivery lockers at stations is something our customers have told us makes their life easier, as they combine travelling with collecting or dropping off their parcels. Quadient has a great reputation for customer service, and we are delighted to partner with them to bring their services to thousands of our customers each and every day."

Northern operates 2,500 services daily, connecting over 500 stations across Northern England. Referring to the collaboration with Northern, Katia Bourgeais-Crémel, Director of Locker Automation Europe at Quadient, added, "Railways like Northern play a crucial role in connecting communities, and Parcel Pending by Quadient's open network lockers connect carriers, retailers, consumers, locker hosts, and local businesses to send and receive parcels in a reliable, 24/7, convenient and secure manner."

"Typical locations for Quadient lockers include petrol stations, car parks, supermarkets, food establishments, and now, Northern rail stations. With about 100 million passenger journeys made each year on Northern's network, we are excited to bring the convenience of automated lockers to their customers and to expand the network for our carrier and retail partners."

Over 20,800 Quadient locker units are currently in operation globally, positioning Quadient as a significant player in transforming out-of-home delivery. The company promotes a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative that adds value for carriers, local businesses, locker hosts, and consumers.
