CHERRY XTRFY has launched the K63W Pro Compact Ultra-Wideband gaming keyboard, now available across Europe at a recommended retail price of £179.99.

According to CHERRY XTRFY, it is the first gaming keyboard to combine Ultra-Wideband wireless technology with an 8000Hz polling rate. It also introduces a 70% layout that retains function keys while reducing the board's side sections to free up desk space for mouse movement.

The launch adds a new product to the group's premium gaming range as keyboard makers compete as much on wireless performance as on switch design and form factor. CHERRY XTRFY is positioning the device for experienced players who want a wireless setup with low interference and a compact layout.

Wireless focus

Ultra-Wideband, or UWB, is central to the product's design. The technology sends data in short pulses across a broad frequency spectrum and operates within its own frequency range, which helps reduce interference from nearby wireless devices and maintain a stable connection in crowded environments, according to the company.

That matters in a market where wireless keyboards have often faced scrutiny over latency and signal reliability, especially among competitive players. CHERRY XTRFY says the K63W Pro Compact reaches an 8000Hz polling rate in both wireless and wired modes, allowing it to transmit signals to a computer up to eight times per millisecond.

The keyboard can also be used while charging through a detachable USB-C cable. It has a 6000mAh battery with a stated runtime of up to 1100 hours, depending on settings.

Design changes

Alongside its wireless performance, the keyboard features a low-profile gasket-mounted construction, a design more commonly associated with larger enthusiast keyboards than compact gaming models. In this setup, internal components are mounted elastically to reduce vibration and noise, with the aim of creating a softer typing feel during extended use.

CHERRY XTRFY has paired that construction with its CHERRY MX Low Profile 2.0 mechanical switches. According to the company, the switches use a revised design and tuned lubrication to deliver smoother keystrokes and improved acoustics, and are rated for more than 100 million actuations.

The 70% format marks another notable shift. Rather than following more common full-size, tenkeyless or 65% layouts, the design keeps function keys while trimming surrounding areas. The bottom-right keys can be configured as arrow keys or assigned to alternative commands such as Shift or Ctrl, with multiple assignments set through software.

Other features include per-key RGB lighting, full N-key rollover and anti-ghosting. Together, these place the model at the upper end of the gaming keyboard segment, where manufacturers are trying to stand out through combinations of wireless speed, battery life, customisation and typing feel.

Computex attention

The K63W Pro Compact was shown at Computex in Taipei, where it appeared on several best-of-show lists compiled by media outlets. That exposure gives CHERRY XTRFY an early marketing boost in a category where new releases are frequent and differentiation can be difficult.

CHERRY, the parent group behind the gaming brand, has a longer history in computer input devices, including keyboards, mice, microphones and headsets, as well as products for office, industrial and digital healthcare use. The business operates from Germany and maintains development, service, logistics and production sites in Europe and China, alongside sales offices in several markets.

The latest launch underlines how much of the gaming peripheral market now centres on incremental gains in responsiveness, wireless stability and compactness rather than headline changes in basic keyboard design. By combining UWB connectivity, an 8K polling rate and a smaller layout, CHERRY XTRFY is targeting players who want fewer compromises between cable-free use and competitive performance.

The K63W Pro Compact is available in Europe for £179.99.
