BrowsAble has secured £300,000 to develop its web accessibility technology, combining Innovate UK backing with private investment from Manchester-based EHE Group.

The package includes a £150,000 Innovate UK grant, matched by investment from EHE Group through its AI Growth Fund, with support from EHE Venture Studio. The funding will support the next stage of development ahead of a planned market launch in 2027.

Altrincham entrepreneur Peter Wrenshall founded BrowsAble after exploring ways to help a friend with a visual impairment. What began as a magnifying tool has since evolved into a broader web accessibility platform for users with visual impairments, as well as a range of neurodivergent and cognitive conditions.

The technology uses artificial intelligence to classify and reorganise content across websites without each site requiring individual configuration. As part of the latest project, BrowsAble plans to integrate it into a beta browser extension for consumers and a website install script for businesses.

This gives the company two routes to market. The browser extension is intended to let individuals apply simplified layouts to any website they visit, while the install script is aimed at organisations that want to offer a more accessible digital experience through their own sites.

BrowsAble is designed for people who find digital services difficult to navigate, including those with visual impairments, dyslexia, autism, ADHD, learning disabilities and age-related cognitive decline. The service will be free for users, with website operators expected to pay.

Wrenshall said the business was shaped by research into the barriers many users face online.

"Every website works differently. For people with visual or cognitive disabilities, this inconsistency creates daily barriers to digital independence. Our research found that people can abandon or avoid essential services such as banking and government websites, or require assistance with basic online tasks.

"These findings point to potential applications for BrowsAble across public services, including the NHS and government bodies, as well as eCommerce, financial services and other websites.

We're extremely grateful to Innovate UK and EHE Group for their support, which will help us build on the progress we've made and bring BrowsAble closer to market," said Peter Wrenshall, founder of BrowsAble.

Studio support

EHE Venture Studio, the technical and advisory arm of EHE Group, has worked with Wrenshall on engineering, product development, commercial planning and funding support. The group said this helped turn the initial concept into an investment-ready business and supported the latest fundraising.

The team working on the platform includes Mark Hope, a technology consultant with a background in digital design and delivery, who is involved as a consultant and client partner alongside Wrenshall. The next phase of the collaboration will cover the product, marketing, pricing models and branding.

Wrenshall said EHE had been involved since the start of the project.

"EHE has been part of this journey from day one. The engineering team has helped us build and test the technology, while the strategic support has shaped our funding strategy. Having that combination of technical expertise and business guidance has been invaluable as we take BrowsAble forward," he said.

Fund activity

The investment in BrowsAble forms part of EHE Group's broader strategy of backing early-stage British artificial intelligence businesses. Its investment arm, EHE Ventures, is raising the second £1.5 million tranche of a £15 million AI Growth Fund.

EHE said the fund has already supported eight companies: Deltabase, Fotenix, Good With, NeuWave, Peppercorn AI, Scooch, Spotlight Pathology and Subjct. The group combines direct investment with hands-on support for start-ups through its venture studio model.

Simon Landi, Chief Marketing Officer at EHE, said: "BrowsAble is a great example of what we are seeking to achieve at EHE. Peter came to us with an idea, a genuine problem to solve and the commitment to make it happen.

We've worked alongside him to develop and test the technology, shape the commercial opportunity and secure the funding to take the business forward. It's exactly why we built EHE Venture Studio - to bring together technology, capital and hands-on commercial support to give ambitious founders a better chance of success."
