Wolt celebrates 10 years with EUR €19 billion impact report
Wolt, a technology company focusing on local commerce, has marked its 10th anniversary by publishing a report discussing its economic impact and achievements over the past decade.
The report "A Decade Delivered," was compiled in collaboration with the consultancy Copenhagen Economics. It details Wolt's support of EUR €19 billion in economic activity across 1,000 cities in 28 countries. This figure includes courier earnings, merchant sales, and the indirect economic flows resulting from them, aggregated over a ten-year period.
Wolt's Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Miki Kuusi, expressed gratitude for the company's journey over the past decade. "Wow, what a ride the past 10 years have been. First off, thank you to our amazing partners, customers and teams across Wolt and DoorDash. We're grateful for every order, every merchant and every delivery made on our platform. It's been incredible to grow Wolt together into a true local commerce platform, helping businesses thrive and creating new earning opportunities in neighborhoods across the world. It's still the beginning in so many ways both for Wolt, as well as our industry - we're still learning and I can't wait to see what we achieve in the next decade and beyond," he said.
Since its inception, Wolt has generated EUR €15 billion in sales for local merchants and provided over 450,000 couriers with flexible income opportunities worth EUR €3 billion. The platform has evolved from being primarily a food delivery service to facilitating the delivery of various goods, with non-restaurant orders now comprising 20% of its business. Groceries alone account for EUR €1 billion in annual sales.
Mashiro, a representative of a Japanese restaurant chain in Finland, highlighted the importance of Wolt's services. "Wolt has truly made a big difference in Finland, bringing restaurants closer to families, especially during those chilly Finnish winters. Thanks to Wolt, we can enjoy all kinds of delicious food at home. For our chain of Japanese small restaurants, Wolt has been a game-changer. It's brought in a ton of customers we couldn't have accommodated in our restaurant, especially during the pandemic when our turnover doubled several times," he stated.
In addition to facilitating economic activity, the report celebrates milestones and records Wolt has achieved, such as selling over 130 million burgers, the most ordered food type since the company launched. The company also recorded its most valuable delivery at EUR €8,559, consisting of tech equipment such as iPhones and laptops, indicating the breadth of orders processed through its platform.
In its continued expansion, Wolt introduced the Wolt+ membership programme, which offers zero delivery fees and exclusive discounts. The programme has reached one million subscribers, with members collectively saving over EUR €200 million since its launch in 2021. Wolt has also made notable efforts to support florists, having facilitated over one million flower orders as of early 2024.
Wolt's journey has been further supported by investment from various venture capital firms, and its acquisition by the food delivery company DoorDash in 2022 has paved the way for joint operations across more than 30 countries.
