vaylens launches contactless EV charging payment solution UK-wide

Fri, 30th May 2025

vaylens has announced the UK-wide launch of vaylensPay, a card payment terminal designed to enable contactless payments for electric vehicle (EV) charging in public and private locations.

vaylensPay is now available to charge point operators (CPOs) and public parking operators throughout the UK, with a customer base that includes locations such as car parks, hotels, retailers, and service stations.

The introduction of vaylensPay coincides with the implementation of new government regulations, which, since November 2024, require all newly installed public EV charge points over 8kW to provide contactless payment methods.

The solution allows operators to connect several charging stations to a single payment terminal, removing the need for hardware wiring when adding new chargers. This feature is intended to address infrastructure cost concerns and streamline compliance for operators as they expand their EV charging facilities.

vaylens emphasises that this configuration minimises the need for expensive retrofitting, as individual charging units do not require separate payment terminals. The system integrates with Planet's payment solutions to facilitate secure transactions and aims to offer a streamlined experience for both operators and end users within the vaylens platform.

Russell Olive, UK Director, vaylens, said: "The changing regulations pose real challenges for CPOs and public parking operators, many of whom are facing expensive infrastructure updates. vaylensPay delivers a smarter, more scalable alternative, helping operators meet compliance requirements, keep costs down, and offer the seamless payment experience that EV drivers expect. Backed by the KOSTAL Group, one of the world's top automotive suppliers, our technology is built for reliability, flexibility, and growth."

vaylensPay aims to support charge point operators in adapting to the updated regulatory landscape, where pressure exists to deploy EV charging infrastructure rapidly while maintaining cost efficiency.

The solution is now offered to all charge point operators in the UK and is part of vaylens' broader portfolio for the management and monitoring of EV charging stations.
