Payouts.com has chosen Casper Network as the settlement layer for payments made by AI agents. The tie-up adds on-chain settlement through the csprUSD stablecoin to Payouts.com's AgentWallet and Digital Employees platforms.

The agreement centres on the x402 protocol, which uses HTTP's 402 Payment Required status code to let digital services request payment during an API interaction. Payouts.com's software determines what an AI agent can buy and under what conditions, while Casper handles settlement after a payment is approved.

The partnership comes as companies test wider use of AI agents for tasks beyond analysis and recommendation. These systems are increasingly being used to research products, negotiate with suppliers, buy data and access paid digital services, but payment tools remain largely designed for human users.

Casper Network is already running x402 on mainnet and will act as a settlement rail for agent transactions on the platform. The companies said csprUSD, a dollar-denominated asset in the Casper ecosystem, is intended to serve as the settlement currency for those payments.

Under the arrangement, the payment flow combines an approval layer and a settlement layer. Payouts.com's policy engine determines whether a purchase fits an organisation's rules, including what can be bought and when. Casper then records and settles approved transactions on-chain.

The companies are targeting a problem drawing increasing interest across the payments and technology sectors: how software agents can make purchases directly without relying on a person's card details or other consumer payment methods. In practice, that matters for paid API calls, software subscriptions, datasets and other machine-to-machine transactions that may need to happen automatically.

Payouts.com and Casper said implementation is under way and will be introduced in phases. They did not disclose financial terms.

Machine payments

Interest in the x402 model has grown as more businesses explore software-native commerce. The approach is designed to make payment part of the internet request itself, rather than a separate checkout process built for a human customer.

Casper is also involved in the x402 Foundation, which is working on open standards for software-native payments alongside companies including Google, AWS, Visa, Mastercard, Coinbase and Stripe, according to the announcement. That places the blockchain network within a broader effort to define how machine-led transactions should be authorised and settled.

The announcement also reflects a wider push among blockchain projects to position distributed ledger networks as infrastructure for business payments rather than solely for crypto trading. Here, the emphasis is on stable-value settlement and rule-based controls for corporate use.

Payouts.com described itself as a financial operating system for both human users and AI agents, with services covering payouts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, tax, compliance and reconciliation. The company said it is based in Herzliya, Israel, and has commercial operations in the United States.

Casper is overseen by the Casper Association, a non-profit organisation based in Zug, Switzerland. The network is a Layer 1 blockchain that the organisation says is aimed at regulated real-world assets and machine-to-machine commerce.

Leor Ceder, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Payouts.com, described the company's view of the market shift in a statement accompanying the announcement.

"The next wave of payment volume won't come from humans clicking checkout buttons, but from AI agents transacting on their behalf. Partnering with Casper gives our customers a settlement rail that is live today, not a roadmap item," Ceder said.

Michael Steuer, President and Chief Technology Officer of the Casper Association, said the move addresses a gap in internet commerce as software takes on more buying decisions.

"Every era of the internet needed a payment layer before it could support real commerce. The browser got the credit card form. The smartphone got the in-app purchase. AI agents are the next buyers on the internet, and until now they've been transacting with borrowed human credentials. Payouts.com built the control layer for it; Casper built the settlement layer, with csprUSD as the currency agents actually transact in. Together, that's a complete stack for agent payments," Steuer said.
