Netradyne brings AI drowsiness detection to UK fleets
Netradyne has launched its Driver•i D-450 video safety platform in the UK and added a Driver Monitoring System sensor that detects signs of drowsiness in real time.
The company said the D-450 uses four cameras and records and analyses all driving time. It also said fleet operators can add an in-cab sensor that monitors a driver's eye movements and triggers alerts when it detects fatigue.
Netradyne positions the combined system as a single platform that covers both road-facing and in-cab monitoring. The company said the technology identifies risk and issues real-time alerts during journeys. It also said the system recognises positive driving behaviour.
UK rollout
Netradyne sells video telematics and driver safety technology to commercial fleets. The UK launch expands the availability of its D-450 device and introduces the latest sensor option for fleets that want in-cab drowsiness monitoring.
The company said the D-450 records and analyses 100% of driving time. It said the system uses AI and edge computing. Netradyne said the approach generates data for fleet managers and informs coaching.
Netradyne described the drowsiness sensor as an optional accessory for the Driver•i platform. The company said it focuses on eye movement and detects signs such as prolonged blinks and slow eyelid closure.
Drowsiness alerts
Netradyne said the drowsiness sensor uses measures including Percentage of Eyelid Closure over the Pupil over Time. The company said it can detect fatigue signs before a driver loses focus. It also said the sensor performs in low light and when a driver wears sunglasses.
The company said the system issues audio alerts in the cab. It identified passenger transport, long-haul trucking, logistics, and the transportation of dangerous goods as use cases.
The company also drew a distinction between its approach and "single-feature fatigue systems". It said the combined Driver•i and sensor option forms a broader safety platform that monitors all driving time. Netradyne said the system identifies risks early and issues real-time alerts.
Driver scoring
Netradyne said Driver•i includes a recognition feature for good driving behaviour. The company said this forms part of an approach based on positive reinforcement.
It also highlighted its GreenZone scoring dashboard. Netradyne said the dashboard gives fleet and safety managers a way to coach drivers. It said managers can also run recognition and rewards programmes using the scoring system.
"Netradyne is committed to transforming road safety with smarter technology and our mission of saving one new life on the road every day," said Sergio Barata, VP, EMEA, Netradyne.
Barata also commented on the product expansion. "The D-450 platform has already set a new benchmark for AI-powered fleet monitoring, and the DMS Sensor now brings unprecedented accuracy to drowsiness detection. With Driver•i already trusted by thousands of fleets worldwide, we're excited to deliver a solution that goes beyond compliance to build safer driving cultures for UK fleets," said Barata.
Company footprint
Netradyne said it serves commercial fleet customers across North America, Europe, and Asia. The company said it has analysed more than 25 billion miles of driving vision data for risk. It said it introduced a driver scoring system as part of its product line.
Netradyne said it has headquarters in San Diego and offices in San Francisco, Nashville, the UK and Bangalore. The company said it founded the business in 2015 and continues to expand its fleet safety and video telematics portfolio.
