Ecommpay has launched Savi, an AI chatbot for small businesses seeking help with payments. The tool is available across its small business website, technical documentation and merchant dashboard.

Savi is designed to answer payment questions at any time and direct users to human support when it cannot resolve an issue. The chatbot uses plain English and offers guidance on payment queries, onboarding, integration and day-to-day support.

The launch continues Ecommpay's push into the small business market after it introduced a dedicated offer for smaller merchants. That offer is available to UK-registered businesses selling goods or services online.

Small business focus

Many smaller firms lack in-house payments expertise, even though the checkout stage can determine whether a sale is completed. Savi is intended to help merchants find answers without having to work through technical material or specialist terminology.

Luke Pierce Ionides, Small Business Champion at Ecommpay, set out the rationale for the launch. "Few small business owners are payments experts, but the payment stage of a transaction can make or break a customer journey," said Ionides, Small Business Champion at Ecommpay. "We built Savi to make payments feel less like a puzzle. It provides clear, practical help, making payments feel more manageable, and supports small businesses as they scale."

The chatbot is built to offer tailored suggestions and hand queries to the relevant team member where needed. It is also intended to support merchants at different stages, from those starting out online to those reviewing their next payment options.

Ionides also highlighted accessibility and speed of support. "Savi is designed to be approachable but still speaks with confidence and gets merchants the answers they need without them needing to wade through documentation and jargon," he said. "Whether businesses are just getting started or planning their next steps, Savi helps them make informed decisions about payments without losing momentum."

Broader offer

The chatbot sits alongside a wider small business proposition built on the company's existing payments platform. Ecommpay has operated in global payment processing since 2012 and has served larger clients in Europe and other markets through its own entities and partnerships.

For smaller merchants, it is making parts of that platform available without a minimum volume requirement or an enterprise contract. These include transaction routing intended to improve authorisation rates, as well as fraud and risk management tools previously associated with larger customers.

Its hosted payment page is also included as standard for small business customers and can be accessed through the merchant dashboard without technical resource. Ecommpay added that the product has been accredited for accessibility by the Digital Accessibility Centre.

The move reflects a broader trend in financial technology, with providers using AI tools to handle routine customer queries and reduce pressure on support teams. In payments, that can include helping merchants understand onboarding requirements, integration choices and operational issues that might otherwise require direct contact with account managers or technical staff.

For smaller businesses in particular, immediate support can be a practical issue because they often do not have specialist payments or development teams. A chatbot that can answer basic questions on setup, acceptance and support may help close part of that gap, while escalation to human staff remains important for complex or regulated matters.

Applications for Ecommpay's small business service remain subject to regulatory checks, including identity verification, anti-money laundering screening and business assessment. Not every application will be accepted.

The company is headquartered in London and offers acquiring, payment methods and processing through a single API.
