Ecommpay has announced the integration of ekko's climate action features into its Hosted Payment Page, allowing eCommerce merchants to offer real-time carbon tracking and offsetting options at checkout.
Ecommpay's decision comes as recent research conducted with IMRG indicated that more than 70% of consumers are more likely to shop with retailers that demonstrate sustainability efforts. The survey of 1,000 consumers found that 59.5% always, often, or sometimes opt for environmentally friendly retailers, and a further 15.8% would choose a retailer that supports environmental charities.
Customer preferences
The integration will enable customers to make their everyday payments more environmentally impactful, as ekko's features can be accessed post-purchase. These tools provide insights into the environmental impact of each transaction and offer opportunities to directly offset the carbon footprint through contributions to environmental projects spanning ocean health, nature, wildlife, birdlife, and climate.
Miranda McLean, Chief Marketing Officer of Ecommpay, explained the company's approach to supporting merchants as they respond to evolving customer priorities. She said,
"There is a clear shift in consumer attitudes to sustainability to which eCommerce businesses and FinTechs want to respond. Shoppers want the brands they buy from to act responsibly. However, most merchants lack the tools to integrate climate action without adding complexity or friction.
"By embedding ekko into our Hosted Payment Page, we are giving merchants the ability to offer a post-purchase sustainability feature that customers can access without the need for clicks or redirects. Supporting a wide range of climate initiatives, we believe this is a major step in scaling accessible, impactful climate action through eCommerce. A small action by consumers can have a big ripple effect for the environment."
Environmental impact at checkout
ekko collaborates with several organisations on key environmental issues and its technology allows customers to view and act upon the ecological footprint of their purchases.
Oli Cook, CEO and co-founder of ekko, commented on the partnership, stating,
"Our mission is to make climate action part of the everyday, and payments are one of the most powerful moments to do that. This partnership with Ecommpay brings sustainability to the checkout in a way that's intuitive, measurable, and scalable. It's a huge step forward for the future of responsible commerce."
Payments experience
Ecommpay's Hosted Payment Page is designed for merchants to enhance conversions by providing a seamless shopping experience. The payment page modifies payment options dynamically depending on transaction history, user location, and risk factors. The system also includes a payout function for cards and digital wallets, providing efficiency for businesses that do not have beneficiary details in advance.
The addition of ekko's features is intended not just to meet consumers' sustainability expectations, but also to foster customer satisfaction and loyalty after the point of purchase, where trust in the brand is highest. Merchants using Ecommpay's Hosted Payment Page will be able to integrate ekko's climate action tools with a simple configuration update, requiring no software development kits or major code changes.
Miranda McLean concluded,
"At Ecommpay, we're focused on helping our merchants grow while adapting to what matters most to their customers. This integration with ekko empowers businesses to meet rising sustainability expectations in a way that's seamless and impactful, without compromising on speed, security, or user experience."
Merchants currently using the Ecommpay Hosted Payment Page will be able to access the new ekko integration from August 2025.
