CMA clears HSS ProService & Speedy digital hire partnership
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has cleared a major collaboration between HSS ProService Marketplace and Speedy Hire, enabling a new digital approach to equipment, fuel, and building services procurement within the UK construction and maintenance industries.
Marketplace integration
The agreement enables HSS ProService Marketplace to integrate Speedy Hire's network and services into its digital platform, while Speedy replaces The Hire Service Company as primary supplier. Customers will have access to a broader fleet of hire equipment, improved availability, and a centralised digital platform for procurement. This approach is expected to support efficiency, administrative simplicity, and cost control for contractors and site managers.
Operational changes
Speedy will supply most of the core hire equipment to the ProService platform as well as provide testing services to support site safety and compliance. The transaction includes the transfer of staff from Speedy to HSS ProService, which is intended to enhance operational and on-the-ground capabilities. Additionally, HSS ProService Marketplace assumes responsibility for Speedy's rehire business, consolidating service offerings under one digital system.
Shareholding and supply
Speedy has acquired a 10% stake in ProService as part of the agreement, signalling long-term commitment to the partnership and to digital procurement models. HSS ProService will also become Speedy Hire's exclusive supplier for rehire and resale, with the move forecast to open up further commercial options for supply chain partners.
Industry impact
The deal reflects growing demand in the sector for clear pricing, real-time availability, and reliable fulfilment to support complex building and maintenance operations. The asset-light, hybrid approach aims to make equipment hire and supply more transparent and accessible.
"Contractors and trades want value and efficiency. They want clear pricing, availability, and confidence that equipment will be there when needed. Our technology is the key to this.
"Bringing Speedy into the HSS ProService Marketplace means we can offer a deeper fleet, a wider footprint, and a single digital platform that simplifies the process end-to-end. For a site manager, that means fewer phone calls, less admin, and better control of hire spend.
"Brick by brick, we've been building a digital business that's fit for the future of this industry and this partnership represents a major step forward in how equipment can be sourced, supplied, and managed across the industry," said Tom Shorten, CEO, HSS ProService Marketplace.
