CMA approves Speedy & HSS ProService digital marketplace deal
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has approved a new commercial supply and shareholder agreement between HSS ProService Marketplace and Speedy Hire. This agreement will integrate digital procurement technology with Speedy's national network, affecting the way equipment, fuel, and building services are sourced within the UK construction industry.
Marketplace integration
Speedy will now be the major supplier on HSS ProService Marketplace, replacing The Hire Service Company. Customers will have access to a single digital platform for a broader range of equipment and services, aiming to reduce administrative burdens and enhance control over procurement and spending.
Operational changes
Speedy will provide most core hire equipment on the platform and deliver testing services for site safety and compliance. The agreement involves the transfer of some Speedy staff to HSS ProService, aiming to enhance operational capacity and on-site capabilities. Additionally, HSS ProService Marketplace assumes Speedy's rehire business to consolidate activities under a shared platform.
Shareholding arrangement
Underlining a long-term commitment, Speedy has acquired a 10% shareholding in HSS ProService Marketplace. This move aligns both companies strategically in the digital procurement sector and reflects confidence in the asset-light marketplace model, which HSS ProService is now pursuing more fully.
Supply chain impact
ProService becomes the sole supplier for Speedy's rehire and resale needs, opening further opportunities for supply chain partners. The partnership is expected to improve efficiency and cost-saving measures for contractors, tradespeople, and building service operators.
Tom Shorten, CEO, HSS ProService Marketplace, said: "Contractors and trades want value and efficiency. They want clear pricing, availability, and confidence that equipment will be there when needed. Our technology is the key to this. Bringing Speedy into the HSS ProService Marketplace means we can offer a deeper fleet, a wider footprint, and a single digital platform that simplifies the process end-to-end. For a site manager, that means fewer phone calls, less admin, and better control of hire spend."
"Brick by brick, we've been building a digital business that's fit for the future of this industry and this partnership represents a major step forward in how equipment can be sourced, supplied, and managed across the industry."
