Blackmagic lowers Pocket Cinema Camera 4K to USD $995

Today

Blackmagic Design has announced a price reduction for its Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, lowering the cost to USD $995.

The decision to decrease the price by USD $300 aims to make the camera more accessible to those involved in digital film and live production. The Pocket Cinema Camera 4K features a 4/3 image sensor with a resolution of 4096 x 2160 and an MFT lens mount, which allows for capturing wide dynamic range images with a filmic quality. The camera also integrates with ATEM Mini switchers, enhancing its capability as a studio camera.

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K is constructed from lightweight carbon fibre polycarbonate composite and includes a multifunctional handgrip, providing easy access to controls for recording and other camera functions. The sensor design reduces thermal noise, resulting in cleaner images even at higher ISOs, notably when using the dual native ISO feature that allows settings up to 25,600.

This camera model also provides a large five-inch LCD screen, enhancing user ability to achieve precise focus for 4K resolution shots. Moreover, the device can function as part of a live production system when paired with an ATEM Mini, where video and control signals are transmitted via HDMI. The integration allows easy switching of cameras on air, with the tally feature indicating active status.

Users of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K benefit from the Blackmagic OS, which is designed with user-friendly tap and swipe interfaces. The system offers control over advanced features like focus and exposure tools, HDR, timecode, and Blackmagic RAW settings. These features are enhanced further by the camera's 13 stops of dynamic range, ensuring high performance in diverse lighting conditions, enabling filming up to 60 fps or 120 fps in a cropped mode.

The camera's design and functionality are complemented by the inclusion of the Blackmagic Generation 5 Color Science, which enhances image quality, ensuring accurate skin tones and vibrant colour reproduction. The colour science system also simplifies the post-production process by retaining colour and dynamic range data via metadata, which can be adjusted later.

Among its key specifications, the camera provides several professional-grade features, such as multiple input and output options, professional mini XLR inputs with 48-volt phantom power, and 3.5mm audio connectivity. The camera supports 4K video recording at up to 60 fps and includes advanced format compatibility for seamless workflows.

Accompanying the camera is a full version of DaVinci Resolve Studio, offering comprehensive post-production capabilities, from editing and colour correction to visual effects and audio post-production.

"The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K has been popular with customers as both a digital film camera and also a studio camera when used with ATEM Mini switchers. It has wide dynamic range for digital film and DaVinci Resolve color science, but it also has a color corrector built in, tally and remote control for live production," stated Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. "We have been working hard on our manufacturing processes and have lowered the cost of production even further, so we can now pass that on to people through a lower price. It's quite exciting because we have a fantastic solution to bring digital film quality to everyone!"

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K is available for purchase through resellers worldwide at the new price point, excluding any local duties and taxes.
