Primer & Cleeng join forces to optimise global payments

Fri, 11th Apr 2025

Primer has announced a partnership with Cleeng to enhance global payment operations and reduce churn for its subscriber base.

Cleeng, known for its subscription retention management services, works with entities such as Big Ten Network, The Weather Channel, and The Tennis Channel. The company acts as a Merchant of Record, simplifying payment operations, including tax collection and chargebacks.

The partnership with Primer will allow Cleeng to leverage the strengths of various payment providers, introducing greater flexibility for both Cleeng and its global merchants. This collaboration utilises dynamic routing to enhance the chances of successful payments by taking the most optimal path.

Cleeng is committed to supporting its customers' global growth from regions such as the U.S., Latin America, and Asia-Pacific. The focus is on creating a dynamic and localised payment experience that adapts to complex demands and growth.

Utilising Primer's unified payment infrastructure, Cleeng can now connect to multiple Payment Service Providers (PSPs) globally. This integration is expected to boost payment performance due to the ability to optimally route payments for a worldwide customer base.

Another key aspect of the partnership is the ability to recover payments and reduce churn. Optimising recurring payments and applying advanced fallback logic, Primer's technology can automatically switch to a different processor, thus increasing the likelihood of successful payments and decreasing involuntary churn.

Cleeng now also gains the ability to effortlessly test, optimise, and scale its operations by bringing global payments under one roof. Improved visibility and flexibility allow Cleeng to conduct A/B tests across providers and dynamically route payments based on previous performance and success rates. This approach aims to future-proof Cleeng's global growth strategy.

Enzo Bermond, Senior Product Manager at Cleeng, commented, "Primer is a battle-tested platform built to handle the complexities of global payments. Given the diverse needs of our customer base, we needed a resilient, adaptable solution that could address a wide range of challenges across different markets."

The subscription economy is projected to reach USD $1 trillion globally by 2028. That market prediction underlines Cleeng's focus on building a robust payment model designed to maximise success rates, minimise chargebacks, and maintain subscriber payments consistently.

Gabriel Le Roux, Co-founder & CEO at Primer, stated, "Subscription businesses thrive on seamless payments, and Cleeng understands that better than anyone. As they support more brands globally, they need the flexibility to work with the best payment providers in every market, without being held back by rigid platforms. That's precisely what Primer enables. Our partnership ensures Cleeng can optimise every transaction, reduce churn, and keep subscribers engaged for the long haul."
