Kao Data campaign celebrates women shaping digital infrastructure

Yesterday

Kao Data has launched a new campaign, Critical Careers: Celebrating Women in Digital Infrastructure, which highlights the experiences and contributions of women working across the global digital infrastructure sector.

The campaign features in-depth interviews with women from a variety of backgrounds, disciplines and career stages, reflecting the broad range of roles in the digital infrastructure industry. The initiative is part of Kao Data's wider environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy to support diversity, inclusion and representation in technology infrastructure.

Critical Careers: Celebrating Women in Digital Infrastructure brings together personal stories from women in fields such as engineering, real estate, marketing, and human resources. According to Kao Data, the women included range from recognised industry leaders to those whose work may be less publicly known but whose impact is significant in the day-to-day running and future growth of data centres worldwide.

The project comes as the digital infrastructure sector continues to expand rapidly, supporting developments in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and enterprise technology. Kao Data notes that the campaign seeks to acknowledge the central role women have played, and continue to play, in maintaining and growing the infrastructure underlying the global digital economy.

The aim of the campaign

The interviews and stories in the Critical Careers campaign are intended to provide insight into the reality of a career in digital infrastructure from the perspective of women at various points in their professional journeys. These accounts detail both the challenges encountered and the achievements made, with Kao Data's intention being to present a clearer picture of women's roles across the industry.

Kalay Moody, Chief People Officer at Kao Data, described the goals of the campaign, stating:

"Critical Careers aims to celebrate the remarkable women who are thriving in digital infrastructure. We wanted to take an in-depth look at the countless, impactful contributions women from all disciplines and at all stages of their careers are making to the industry. What we discovered is that no two stories are the same, but together they reflect the importance of diverse experiences in driving progress and innovation in mission critical infrastructure."

The campaign draws attention not only to technical expertise but also to how women from different backgrounds bring varied perspectives to problem-solving and business challenges within data centres and related infrastructure.

Perspectives from across the sector

Cláudia Alves, Strategic Negotiator at Google, commented on the value of diversity in this field, saying:

"Women in the data centre industry bring a balance that is essential for holistic problem-solving and innovation. By integrating different perspectives and approaches, teams can achieve more balanced and effective solutions. Critical Careers is showcasing all the ways women are making a difference in the data centre industry and that there's no one way to lead, contribute, or succeed."

By publishing these stories, the campaign aims to make visible the varied routes to success available in digital infrastructure, as well as the personal motivations and principles driving women's engagement in this area.

Supporting diversity and future talent

Kao Data's Critical Careers campaign is positioned as a resource to spotlight the stories of women already working in the sector and as an initiative to inspire more women to pursue careers within digital infrastructure. The company states that the book is designed to be both aspirational and practical, offering advice and lessons learnt from current professionals.

The company views this campaign as a way to demonstrate the importance of diverse representation to the sector's continued success and resilience. According to the press release, the collection of interviews is also aimed at encouraging organisations within the field to continue shaping inclusive cultures where new perspectives are welcomed and valued.

The book reveals not only professional achievements but also underlines how, for many, work in digital infrastructure is tied to a sense of purpose and broader mission, with the hope that these stories will inspire a new generation to join the sector.
