Remote launches AI-powered payroll service for 100 countries

Yesterday

Remote has expanded its AI-driven payroll platform to support more than 100 countries.

The company's latest development sees its in-house payroll infrastructure now covering over 100 markets, accompanied by additional features aimed at serving businesses with distributed teams operating globally.

Remote's system combines payroll, human resources, benefits, and compliance capabilities within a single platform, enabling organisations to scale into new international markets more quickly and with less complexity. This approach is designed to address the challenges of delays, inefficiencies, and fragmentation tied to managing multiple vendors for different payroll and HR functions.

Traditionally, businesses operating internationally have depended on payroll aggregators to navigate the intricate and precise processes required for paying teams in various countries. These aggregators typically rely on a network of smaller local vendors to tackle compliance and taxation requirements specific to each jurisdiction, which can introduce delays, errors, and compliance risks.

Remote's model eliminates dependence on such intermediary vendors. Instead, it has developed its own proprietary AI-powered payroll architecture that is currently operational in several key countries, including Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. This strategy is intended to offer organisations full control over payroll processing and execution, enhancing efficiency, speed, and legal compliance.

The platform's native payroll engine is designed to process payroll instantly and adapt to local operational and compliance requirements. Remote's ownership of the entire payroll technology stack is aimed at ensuring a reliable and responsive service for clients, bolstered by the support of localised teams with experience in international payroll administration.

The newly expanded Remote Payroll includes several features designed to simplify payroll processes for companies with global teams. Key features include seamless integration with other Remote services - such as Recruit, Remote HRIS, Contractor Management, and Equity - that remove the need for multiple vendors and facilitate unified management of a global workforce. The platform supports salaried employees worldwide and also covers hourly workers in selected major markets, broadening the types of roles organisations can retain internationally.

Remote Payroll also provides options to manage multi-country benefits plans directly within the payroll system through Remote Global Benefits. Another notable offering is the smart bulk uploader, which enables companies to migrate existing employee and pay data at scale.

Job van der Voort, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Remote, commented on the launch, stating: "The outdated, fragmented, and slow approach to multi-country payroll - still the industry standard for most providers - simply doesn't work for modern, fast-moving companies. When people don't get paid correctly or on time, it damages your employer brand and signals that your company isn't ready to operate globally."

He continued: "Remote is giving our customers an alternative by building proprietary, AI-powered calculation engines from the ground up - already in use in some of our most popular countries for hiring, with more on the way - enabling instant processing and complete flexibility in how companies pay their teams, while upholding the highest standards of accuracy and compliance."
