PicoNext launches AI-powered app for Shopify DPP creation

Tue, 5th Nov 2024

PicoNext has launched a new app for Shopify merchants that uses generative AI to facilitate the creation of Digital Product Passports (DPPs).

The new app aims to aid Shopify merchants in quickly generating DPPs by summarising product data directly from Shopify's platform. This development comes as many product categories, including apparel, textiles, electronics, and furniture, are set to require DPPs under new European Union regulations. The DPPs, accessible via QR codes or web links, detail various sustainability attributes such as materials origin, carbon footprint, and recycling.

The integration within Shopify allows merchants to streamline their workflow by selecting product data, which the PicoNext AI Assistant then processes. Merchants can choose pre-configured DPP templates or customise their own to best suit their products' sustainability data. This information is automatically summarised and can be reviewed and edited before being published to customers. Merchants can also generate QR codes directly linking to the Digital Product Passports, providing convenient customer access.

Sydney-based apparel brand Fibre For Good has utilised this app to manage the creation of Digital Product Passports for its new Heritage line. The brand, which focuses on sustainability, leveraged the app's capabilities to reduce the time and cost of publishing DPPs. Founder Carl Ludwig, stated, "Using the PicoNext Product Passports app for Shopify helped us produce our Digital Product Passport more quickly and at lower cost than we could otherwise have done."

"Instead of manually sifting through all of our sustainability data, we used AI to generate a first pass of our DPP directly from our Shopify store, which we then fine-tuned to achieve our final result," said Ludwig.

Dave Dickson, Founder of PicoNext, highlighted the app's potential benefits, particularly in compliance and customer engagement: "With the PicoNext Product Passports app for Shopify, merchants can conveniently create Digital Product Passports from the product data they already have in their e-commerce platform."

"With Digital Product Passports, companies can not only drive compliance with fast-evolving regulations in the European Union and other locations, but they can connect more deeply with customers around important sustainability and responsible sourcing efforts," said Dickson.

PicoNext's app for Shopify provides an efficient tool for merchants aiming to comply with new EU sustainability regulations while enhancing customer transparency. By automating DPP creation and simplifying data integration, the app supports businesses in managing and sharing essential product information, helping them align with regulatory demands and foster trust in their sustainability practices.
