Oracle & Google Cloud add AI agent for database queries

Oracle and Google Cloud have expanded their partnership with new artificial intelligence features for Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud, including an Oracle AI Database Agent for Gemini Enterprise.

The new agent lets users query Oracle data in natural language through Gemini Enterprise, without writing SQL, while keeping data inside governed Oracle database environments.

Available through Google Cloud Marketplace, the tool is aimed at customers that want to connect generative AI systems to business data without moving or duplicating it. The agent can interpret requests, query relevant Oracle datasets, and return responses based on information held in the database.

The update reflects a broader effort by major cloud providers to tie AI services more closely to enterprise systems, as customers look for ways to use large language models with internal data while maintaining security and compliance controls.

"We're making it easier for customers to use natural language to access, understand, and act on enterprise data by combining the Gemini Enterprise experience with Oracle's industry-leading database performance, security, and governance," said Nathan Thomas, Senior Vice President of Product Management at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

"By applying AI directly to enterprise data at the database layer, customers can improve accuracy, strengthen controls, and use models more efficiently without exposing sensitive data or adding complexity. Together, we're making it easier for our customers to power agentic AI with trusted business data," he added.

Google Cloud described the move as part of a broader push to make enterprise data more accessible to AI agents used inside businesses.

"To deliver real impact from agentic AI, customers need a simple, trusted way to interact with their valuable business data using intelligent agents such as the Oracle AI Database Agent," said Satish Thomas, Vice President of Applied AI & Platform Ecosystem at Google Cloud. "By making this agent accessible through Gemini Enterprise, we're giving customers greater flexibility to apply AI to data stored in Oracle databases and turn that data into meaningful business value."

Customer use

Oracle pointed to demand from customers already building AI services on its database products. AI Shift, a CyberAgent subsidiary in Japan that develops agentic AI systems for customer service, marketing, and sales, uses Oracle Autonomous AI Database on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for its development platform and plans to use the new database agent with Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud.

"The Oracle AI Database Agent represents an important advancement in how we use AI with enterprise data," said Yuto Yoneyama, Chief Executive Officer of AI Shift. "With Gemini Enterprise, our users can move from writing SQL to asking questions in natural language to get answers grounded in trusted enterprise data. That helps us speed development, improve the quality of results, and make faster, more informed decisions without compromising governance and control."

Oracle and Google Cloud also highlighted uptake of Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud among organisations moving workloads into the cloud. Worldline, the European payments provider, is using Oracle Exadata Database Service on the platform as part of efforts to modernise its payments infrastructure.

Worldline processes billions of transactions worldwide and requires low latency and strong security for payment processing. The database service is being used to support those requirements inside Google Cloud.

"Worldline operates one of the largest payment processing platforms, for which consistent low latency and high throughput are non-negotiable," said Arni Smit, Director of Software Engineering, Integration and Payment Platform at Worldline. "Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud gives us the scalability, resilience, and security capabilities we require to support real-time transaction processing at global scale by delivering the power of Oracle Exadata within Google Cloud."

Broader rollout

Alongside the AI database agent, Oracle outlined further additions to the service. These include OCI GoldenGate for real-time migration of Oracle databases into Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud, with support for links to Google BigQuery for near real-time analytics.

Oracle Autonomous AI Lakehouse can also now read BigQuery Iceberg tables directly, which is intended to let customers analyse open-format data across Oracle and Google Cloud environments without duplicating datasets.

Regional availability has also widened. Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud is now offered in 15 regions: Tokyo, Osaka, Mumbai, Delhi, Sydney, Melbourne, Milan, Frankfurt, Montreal, Toronto, São Paulo, London, Iowa, Ashburn, and Salt Lake City.

The expansion underscores Oracle's effort to position its database technology inside rival cloud platforms as part of its multicloud strategy. Rather than requiring customers to shift entirely to Oracle infrastructure, the company has increasingly sought to place its database services within the environments where large enterprises already run analytics, applications, and AI systems.

For Google Cloud, the arrangement offers another way for customers to connect Gemini Enterprise with data stored in longstanding Oracle estates, a common feature of large corporate technology environments. The latest update suggests both companies see demand in reducing the work needed to link conversational AI tools with production business data.

The service now spans 15 regions across Asia-Pacific, Europe, North America, and South America.
